What do we need to do to get a good nightly back-up of our Strategy Roundtable™ data?

Please note that this Technical FAQ is intended for your system administrator or other appropriate IT technical support person.

A good automated back up of Strategy Roundtable™ data, the database(s) requires that the database(s) not be loaded on an Adaptive Server Anywhere (ASA) database engine.

Assuming you are running ASA on a Window NT server, Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server, and you are running the ASA engine as a service (set up using Sybase Central or Manage Adaptive Server Anywhere), you will need to stop the service prior to running a back-up and then restart the service so that Strategy Roundtable™ will be available at the start of business the following work day.

Most enterprise back-up solutions have a facility to run programs via a command line interface. If this is the case for your installation, the appropriate command line to run prior to executing the back-up to stop the service is:

net stop ASANYs_sr_server

The command line to run after the back-up to restart the service is:

net start ASANYs_sr_server

Both commands assume that the name of the service to be stopped/started is "sr_server". You should substitute the actual name for your ASA service. You can confirm the service name to use by viewing the Registry key value at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASANYs_{your service name}.
